I read this article in the Chicago Tribune the other day about the most expensive cities to travel to and it got me thinking about all of my travel adventures. I've been to 43 countries, have lived in 5 countries and hold 3 nationalities.

Even my cats have lived in 4 countries. My cats have seen more of the world than my mum.

New York! You haven't been to New York?!?! Ah well, you can always come visit when I'm over there ;-)

My fave city not in the list is San Francisco. For obvious reasons, I'm a die hard techie and a free spirit. No, I'm not gay!

I just feel Seattle has got to be here somewhere.

Going rates in a Moscow bazaar:

Loaf of bread: 1153 rubles
AK-47 original issue: 99 rubles

I have been to about half of the cities listed and Berlin was my favorite on the list. My favorite that wasn't on the list has to be Jackson Hole, WY ... though to me it was more expensive than New York.

On this list, I have only been to New York. (Manhattan/Long Island) It was fabulous!!

I would love to go to Athens, London, Barcelona, and Sydney.

And not on the list that I really want to go and visit...Rome, Napa Valley, and Seattle. I can't believe Seattle didn't make the list--I have some friends there that tell me it's ridiculously pricey! Maybe it's #51?

I LOVE to travel too. I know there is tons of stuff out there to be seen that I don't even know I want to see. And I cannot wait until I am working and I can bitch about having money to go anywhere I want but not having enough time! ;)

My favorite city to travel to is New Orleans.

Second: Memphis.

(You can--and I have--stayed in kick-ass, five-star hotels in both for prices the average shmoe can afford.)

Least favorite city: Cancun.

Second: Montego Bay.

Zen Wizard said...

I also have a hookup on some cheap hotels in Rome and Athens (Georgia.)

Jenny! said...

Cece:
I know a ton of people who have only been to Mexico! Your' not the only broke one out there! I can't even afford that now!

Zen Wizard said...

Savannah, GA is a cool town to visit--but it sucks ass to live there.

Tampa/St. petersburg is way cooler than you would think--there are three nice art museums there plus all the historic $H!t in Ybor City.

Jenny! said...

Snow:
That is the sucky part! You either don't have money or don't have time! You should so try ot make time, its amazing!

Jenny! said...

Zen:
I loved New Orleans! Never been to Memphis. I hate Florida...to humid...yuck!

Zen Wizard said...

(I don't like Mexico because I have been to Cancun 5 times and gotten sick every time. makes you appreciate that $105-billion the USDA spends every year to check the food & $h!t.)

Zen Wizard said...

Memphis, once again, I feel is cool because you can walk around Beale Street and walk across the river and see the scientific display on Mud Island and stuff.

Then of course there is Graceland and the Nat'l Civil Rights Museum--with the Laurel Motel preserved almost exactly as it was when MLK was shot. That was pretty trippy for me 'cause it was like a time machine back to the Sixties.

Zen Wizard said...

If I was a woman and lived in Chicago, I would make a day trip to French Lick, Indiana.

Jenny! said...

Zen:
Get out...there's a French Lick Inidana???

I am not a huge fan of Mexico...I went to Peurta Vallarta...got sick...probalby not because I ate bad food though...hmmmm! I don't like sand and beach!

Jenny! said...

Zen:
I do enjoy the history behind different places, isn't that why people travel, to learn and expericnce a taste of life somehwere else.

London is expensive.

Surprised to se my home city on your list as well, though.

Although it is quite expensive, compared to other British cities.

God knows why.

Jenny! said...

Crushed by Ingsoc:
Where is Birmingham (sorry if I misspelled) compared to London?

My biggest passiong (besides writing) is traveling - apparently, it's my most luxurious passion, too! LOL

Heck, I'm on board - next trip, let me know where you're heading, and I'm there! :)

Crushed said...

Jenny- It's in the midlands, about eighty miles NW of London.

Mike Minzes said...

Are we listing cities, or countries or both?

S said...

Birmingham? Surely there are more expensive places in England. Agreeing with ingsoc that London is surely more expensive.

captain corky said...

I can't believe Louisville Kentucky isn't on that list. I call Bullshit!

SMARTBuddy said...

Interesting list- I had no idea Moscow was expensive. Ive been to 21 of them, but have recently been going to the cheap countries- you can live for a month for waht a day costs in London!

Jeannie said...

I haven't been to ANY of the cities. I've been to 8 other countries but I'm a beach person - hate cities. My husband has been to at least 3 of them though and tries to convince me to travel to cities.

Em said...

BIRMINGHAM? Birmingham?! How the hell did that get there...(I'm genuinely shocked, what's so dear about Birmingham..?) Interesting question though, I don't travel enough :( Have only been to six on the list, I'm very cliche, I think the best two cities I've been to are Paris and New York (Londinium's great to visit too).

What about the worst city you've been too? Mine has to be Bankok...(I saw Tailand, then I saw it's capital. Argh!)

Jenny! said...

Keshi:
I was suprised by a few though!

Jenny! said...

Ashley:
Yeah you should...it is just so expensive to travel!

Jenny! said...

Who knows! You can list whatever you want!

Jenny! said...

James:
I don't think I have been to Birmingham...what makes it so expensive???

Jenny! said...

Captain:
Chicago's not on the list either! I will see your bullshit!

Jenny! said...

Smartbuddy:
Yeah, I have been to alot more than is on the list, but they are not as expensive, but you can live like a King when your there!

Jenny! said...

Jeannie:
I am your opposite...I hate beaches and love cities! You should go, there is so much to see!

Jenny! said...

Em:
I actually really liked Bangkok and Thailand! It was disgustingly dirty, and the river was aweful, but I really enjoyed it...I would actually go back!

My least favorite city...that's hard...I found Seattle a bit boring (sorry Thomas). I also didn't like Peurta Vallarta...wouldn't be eager to go back to either of those.

Jenny,

Yup, I don't have anything against Bangkok per se but after having two weeks around the Gulf eating amazing food and checking out the Buddhists I found the city drove me nuts...but the people and the atmosphere are wonderfully vibrant...

Reports on Thursday said that the unnamed prisoners, hanged in separate prisons, had all been convicted of multiple murders.

There are currently more than 100 people on death row, including Shoko Asahara, the mastermind behind the 1995 sarin gas attacks on the Tokyo subway. No executions were carried out in 2011.

Human rights groups say Japan's death row is particularly harsh.

Amnesty International has called for it to be abolished, saying the condemned have few visits, little exercise and are forced to spend almost all of their time sitting down in their cells.
