Friday night I went (finally) to see Wicked with my mom and aunt. It was absolutely amazing, there are no words to describe how awesome Wicked was! Maybe I will be cheesy and say (I am sure you've heard it before) that Wicked was wicked! We decided to go out to dinner before hand and my mom and aunt picked Bennigan's, now I like Bennigan's and all, but really out of all the places to eat in Chicago, we picked Bennigan's??? I was a bit disappointed, but nonetheless it was a great meal. Our waiter was dumber than my left pinky finger, but he was handsome so my mom and aunt decided that it was okay to flirt with him. I, however; was put off by his stupidity and he had the nerve to card me...um, I am with two old horny ladies, I think I am old enough to drink...thanks! It was a good time!
So, back to Wicked...the cast was amazing and since I have dorky show-choir friends, I already knew the words to the songs! I was so tempted to sing along, because that is what I like to do, but I resisted the urge and kept to myself. When I was like 3 or 4, I watched The Wizard of Oz for the 1st time and I cried when the witch melted...I liked her and felt sorry for her...and now I know that my tears were justifiable and acceptable! I was not an evil cold rotten bitch at the age of 3, I was just really in tune with Elphaba's upsetting past! I knew she was good at heart! Elphaba by far out shined the rest of the cast with her amazing voice! The set was amazing overall one of my favorite plays by far, along with Phantom of the Opera, Mama Mia and Rent.
Wicked is at the Oriental Theatre which is one of the most beautiful theatres with a very ornate Oriental theme. After the play let out and we were being herded towards the door a few older woman were talking about how the play was awful and the singing sounded more like, "screeching and screaming". They also said that Glinda (aka Galinda) was too "bubbly" and "annoying". Um, hello, did you not catch on to the fact that she was supposed to be that way??? Dumb old people piss me off!

I was going to buy the soundtrack but I am stingy and decided I would get it later because $20.00 was too much. And then on Saturday, I was like, "fuck...I really need to sing Wicked!" So, I headed to Target and found it on sale for $9.99 - what a deal! It is the original Broadway cast versions, so I don't like it as much as the cast from Chicago, but it will do!
I would really like to read the book, so I am hoping Sarah will let me borrow it!

Have you seen Les Miserable - my favourite.
That witch looks a horny sort - never thought I would fancy getting to know a witch intimately.
Cool. I hate musicals, so I'm glad I wasn't anywhere near the theater, but I'm glad you had a good time. Smart move on waiting to get to Target to pickup the soundtrack.
I was actually in Chicago this weekend. I went to the The Riv to see Snowden. I'm sure I'll post about it once I wake up.
Ratty:
I have not, but heard really great things about it.
And I am positive that witch is horny, it's hard to get off with a man made of straw!
Stick with the musical, it's Muay Mucho better than the book. The latter is just too depressing.
Minijonb:
I know a lot of men that hate musicals...I am a huge fan, I secretly want to be a singer! The Riv is another great Chicago theatre! I haven't heard of Snowden, but their website looked cool, I am going ot check out ther music later.
Papa:
Really, the book is more depressing than the play? Since I already know what happens, the book would probably being not as good either!
Do you know the words to the Bennigan's jingle?
Because nobody cares if you sing along with THAT--or for that matter, break into it for no reason at public places.
You will have to borrow it from Beth because that is what I did, I have the sequal though so when you have finished reading Wicked you can borrow part two..
I am glad you liked it so much, I thought it was awesome to!!!!
The fact that you like it as much as Mama Mia is impressive! It wont take long before you know all the words and are doing the double shampoo!
Elphaba lives!
Jenny and Papa: the book is amazing but is not super happy like the musical is.
However, the book takes the stroy to a whole new level!!! You have to read it!
My wife read the book and really liked it a lot. It's a pretty cool premise.
Glad you enjoyed the show! Of all the time I've spent in Chicago, I couldn't spare enough to go and actually watch it. There was a lack of great people to go watch it with too!
I heard its coming to Columbus :-) I don't know how great the cast will be, but it can't be that bad ;-)
I need to go see it ASAP.
Zen:
I don't, but I should learn them!
I like bennigans better than TGI fridays. Never heard of Wicked, I't looks like something I'll eventually be dragged kicking and screaming to ;)
Sarah:
Elphaba lives...oh, dear now everyone know's the friend who was in show-choir! There will never be any double shampooing with me!
Captain:
It is a really cool story, the way things are explained is amazing...I love when all the little pieces fit together!
Yoda:
You will LOVE Wicked! Go see it right away, if your in Chicago I would totally go see it again with you!
Hammer:
Why don't men (hetro) like musicals??? I like Bennigans better than Fridays too! Your wife would love to see it! Guaranteed after show sex!!!
Its true, they are here!
Ahhh, why I didn't I come across you when I was actually living in Chicago? Would've saved me the heartburn of going out with deadbeats from work.
Yoda:
Go, go, go! You will have such fun, if I was closer you could take me! Don't take any deadbeats from work though, that would totally blow the evening!
Is it a musical?? Did you ever see Chicago? Thats a good musical- OK I like Wicked but not as much as We Will Rock You... but I would go again with you Ms J... **Gazes Adoringly**
That witch seems to be blushing. Did she just have a great time with the broom?
:-p
That show is about to open here in Melbourne. I'd go, but I'm afraid it might be a bit of a girl's night out show, no?
Hooters in Chicago is good food and very funny - all those families dragged there by the dads!!
Mutley:
I didn't see the musical Chicago, just the movie. It was okay. So, Let's go!
Yoda:
No, she just had a great time with the flying monkeys!
Pub Man:
A bit girly, but still enjoyable for men. If you have liked any other musical you would like this one too!
Ed:
Hooters does have great food! My dad use to drag me there when I was little, I didn't mind his pervy eyes wandering! My fiance actually use ot work at a Hooters in the suburbs...they throw a wicked Holiday Party! I am disappointed when I go to Hooters to eat (yes, we take our two year old to Hooters on occasion...with mommy and daddy) and the waitress has small boobs, when I go, I want to see tit ole biggies!
I shall book three tickets for the next performance one for you, one for me and one for my...
