Funky Town - I'm There!

I'm in kind of a blog funk because of some stupid shit so here is my poor excuse for a post today. I will try to make my rounds but I have no spunk! I love all you, you always make me smile and brighten my mood! I am going on my works Summer outing tonight, a cruise along Lake Michigan with open bar...the free liquor should cheer me up! Hope everyone has a better day than I!

The LA Times did a popular vote for the 'New 7 Wonders' of the world. A global Internet poll decided, unscientifically, mankind's most popular landmarks. Millions of people from across the globe joined in what was essentially a huge publicity stunt, voting via the Internet to choose a new list of the Seven Wonders of the World, announced on 07/07/07! The Roman Catholic Church complained that none of the finalists was a Christian church - shocking that they would complain about that, obviously Catholics are more in favor of things actually wondrous instead of all things Catholic!

So here they are...

GREAT WALL OF CHINA: The 4,160-mile barricade in northern China is the longest man-made structure in the world. The fortification, which largely dates from the 7th through the 4th century BC, was built to protect the dynasties from the Huns, Mongols, Turks and other nomadic tribes.

COLOSSEUM, ITALY: The 50,000-seat amphitheater in Rome was inaugurated in AD 80 by the Emperor Titus in a ceremony of games lasting 100 days. The Colosseum, which has influenced the design of modern sports stadiums, was an arena where thousands of gladiators dueled to the death.
TAJ MAHAL, INDIA: The white marble-domed mausoleum in Agra was built by Mogul Emperor Shah Jahan from 1632 to 1654 to honor his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in childbirth. PETRA, JORDAN: The ancient city of Petra in southwestern Jordan, built on a terrace around the Valley of Moses, is famous for its water tunnels and stone structures carved in rock.
CHRIST THE REDEEMER STATUE, BRAZIL: The 125-foot-tall statue of Christ the Redeemer with outstretched arms overlooks Rio de Janeiro from atop Mt. Corcovado. The statue, which weighs more than 1,000 tons, was built by Polish-French sculptor Paul Landowski in pieces in France starting in 1926, then shipped to Brazil.
MACHU PICCHU, PERU: Built by the Inca Empire in the 15th century, the giant walls, palaces, temples and dwellings of the Machu Picchu sanctuary are perched in the clouds at nearly 8,000 feet above sea level in the Andes Mountains.PYRAMID AT CHICHEN ITZA, MEXICO: The majestic step pyramid surmounted by a temple is one of several structures in the city, one of the greatest Maya centers on Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. The pyramid is built according to the solar calendar so shadows cast at the fall and spring equinoxes appear like a snake crawling down its steps.
Kids are funny...

A 2nd grader asked her mom, "How did I get here?"
Her mom told her, "God sent you."
"Did God send you, too?" asked the child.
"Yes, Dear," the mom replied.
"What about Grandma and Grandpa?" the child persisted.
"He sent them also" the mom said.
"Did he send their parents, too?" asked the child.
"Yes, Dear, He did," said the mom patiently.
"So you're telling me that there has been NO sex in this family for 200 years?
No wonder every one's so damn grouchy around here!"

Here is a picture of the storm that made its way through Illinois yesterday...nasty fucker!

If the open bar doesn't cheer you up, I suggest speaking to a counselor. You may require medical attention.

Wow, boat ride on Lake Michigan with free drinks!! That's some evening you have planned out there woman. It should bring just about anyone back to life :-)

I voted for those seven wonders!!! Did you?

Mighty Dyckerson said...

Seven wonders of the world...and NOT ONE of them is my enormous schlong??! I want a recount!

George said...

7 wonders ... as usual with mass public voting, you vote for a local something or other or you vote for the few you have ever heard of.

Be well Jenny

Sassy Blondie said...

Jenny-That storm pic is fantastic! That storm, however, looks like it was quite pissed off. I'm dying for just one day of sun out here! It's been raining FOR-EV-ER.

And let Dyck know that the wonders can't be prosthetics.

Sassy Blondie said...

OH! And have a great time on your booze cruise. I'm so jealous!

Morning Jenny (well, it is over here) - hope you're not too worse for wear and had a good night last night, perked up?

Mm, the poll's a bit dumb, like people have said, its a localised thing but I do think all of those sites are worthy of recognition (especially the ancient cities). The Catholics can hardly moan, the Redeemer will have been voted for by a load of Catholics (and I think it makes a bigger emotional impact than a church...). Anyway, as somebody wrote in my daily paper, they forgot the eighth wonder: women.
:)

I wanna visit ALL those places! :]

I lurve a good storm too :(I)

Haha, kids know of SO much more then we'd like them to know! That's hilaryous - no sex for over 200 years... LOL

I don't get what's the point of nominating 'new wonders' of the world? The old ones do just fine (yeah, I know, there's only one or two left, but still)...

that picture of the storm is seriously awesome.

Cheer up Jenny! Drinking on a boat is always a good thing!!!

Jen, good post today. By the way, you have been tagged...go to my blog and curse at me.

Its funny how quality has eroded. The Chinese were able to build a huge freakin wall but today with our technology we can't even build a half way decent fence to protect our borders...go figure.

No more storms. We are just drying out now in SA.

Have a fun time tonight. I Like your post. I still think you have spunk. Kids do say the funniest things. The other day my son and I were in the hot tub and I said "life doesn't get any better" He said "I know what would make it better for you dad. To have a bunch of young girls in here with us" Now where did he get that idea????

I can understand why the Church might have ben a little disappointed- Both St Peters and the Hagia sophia are pretty wondrous-

The wall of China reminds me- http//greatfirewallofchina.org

See if you're banned- much more reliable than those guidance ratings.

I think with seven wonders, it's hatd to make a list which pleases everybody. Everything on this list is indeed a wonder, but there are many that have to be left out, if seven is the number.

I like the Incan wonder. That is quite a site to see.

Dykerson:
That is a damn travesty...I will help support your recount!

Jenny! said...

George:
I know...that was one of the complaints about the voting being unfair...people have too much ot complain about! Thanks for you

Jenny! said...

Sassy B:
That storm had raging hormones! Dykerson doesn't get that in order to be a wonder...it needs ot be bigger than 2 inches!

The booze cruise rocked!

Rex Venom:
Booze makes me smile like no other!

I missed a chance to see Machu Picchu in '05 because of a stupid hiking permit problem.

I always thought that Jesus statue was the 900 foot Jesus that Oral Roberts saw.

Not a bad post for someone who claims to be spunkless today.

I checked, you are banned in China!

Fever Dog said...

Your storms look much cooler than ours, no fair. But then I guess you have bigger people, and so need bigger storms.

As for the 7 Wonders, I think the final list was almost exactly the same as my votes -- which I think were almost identical to the original Seven Wonders. Incidentally, about this time last year the agency I was working for was approached by 7-Up to come up with some marketing ideas linked in with 7/7 and the Seven Wonders. Since 7/7 is the anniversary of the terror attacks on London two years ago, we didn't think it was such a great date to be launching a new product in the UK.

Jenny! said...

Brian in Oxford:
Damn permits...you should have gone anyway...permit or not!

Paul:
Thanks! I just wasn't something i was that passionate about, ya know!

Hmmm, why are a number of these "wonders" all falling down? Honestly, I wasn't too impressed with the colosseum. It was much smaller than imagined and a total tourist trap.

That storm pic rocks however.
