The Spindle

The Spindle, a Berwyn landmark (two towns over from where I live) that once made a cameo in the 1992 movie "Wayne's World," will be dismantled to make way for a Walgreens (good, there are none of those around). The sculpture with eight cars sits in the middle of the shopping plaza. I could not be happier that this piece of shit is being dismantled! It is just a giant bird shit catcher. The thing I don't really understand is that there is already a Walgreens in this shopping plaza...why the fuck do we need another one?

That reminds me of those poor people who have broken cars all over their lawns. That's the only kind of people that thing would attract.

Where I live they put old tires in their yard and then paint them bright colors. Thay call that art too.

Um, same could be said for Starbucks. Isn't there one in every grocery store now, and then an actual Starbucks shop right outside of the grocery store. And then another less than a block away. The world is being overrun by Walgreens and Starbucks. Soon it will be like gatorade in Idiocracy. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That's a shame! Walgreens, CVS, and Starbucks are taking over the world...

I think that Spindle looks awesome. They should replace every Walgreens with one.

It reminds me of a guy outside of Portland who protested the jail being built across the street from him by burying school busses head first in his lawn.

It's all urban art man, it should have protected status.

Does anyone ever climb into the cars and pretend they're driving, like, the 4th one in the stack? Stuck in traffic? Could be worse!

8 cars humping each other isn't art. Have you ever danced with a pole, Jenny?

Trash! I am suprised that there aren't cinderblocks holding the cars up!

I could make some art!

So true with Starbucks...it is going to take over the world!

Sassy:
Yes, they are!

How does one man bury a school bus??? I think that urban art walks a fine line...I find most of it garbage...although one man's trash is another's treasure!

I think if anyone tried, the enormous seagulls would attack and kill...that is there territory! It is covered with shit, so I don't know who would want to try!

Depends on what kind of pole we are talking about? Have you?

You can never have too many Walgreens!

walgreens should paint their walls green. that "attraction" looks like redneck art... maybe i can capture it on canvas using my dick as a brush?

Jenny! said...

Ed:
If only they truly were open 24 hours a day as they advertise!

Raffi:
You have more talent in your dick than the redneck who did this!

It represents the demise of the auto industry.

So is there a Walgreens around or isn't there, or am I not catching your sarcasm?

I love that thing. I wonder if they could move it to my yard.

Jealopy Shishkabob! Yum

I like the spindle ... I'm sure that it will be moved somewhere else ... perhaps the vacant lot across from your house ... i'll call the city council.

I can be naughty too ;)

It does!

Papa:
Sarcasm my dear! THere is a Walgreens there already!

I will talk to the Mayor of Berwyn for you and see if they will strike a deal!

Do I need to teach you to be a good boy??? I would prefer that thing over my neighbors...not a bad idea!

Because two Walgreens are better than one! Imagine this scenario ... you just got done shopping at one walgreens and you walk over to your car which is closer to the other walgreens ... in a moment of clarity, you realize that you forgot to buy q-tips and how the wax in your ear's been bothering you lately. Now, wouldn't it be charming if you could buy the q-tips from the closer walgreens??

LMAO!

Never heard of Walgreens. I'd have thought the sculpture had some novelty value.

How about a twenty foot model of the shocker?

honkeie said...

I want to put a car spike in my yard

Jenny! said...

Yoda:
In that scenario I would be blessing my lucky stars that there were two so close together!

Jenny! said...

Crushed:
That would rock! How have you never heard of Walgreens?

Jenny! said...

Honkeie2:
I can help make one for you...my cars a POS...it could go on top!

Crushed said...

No. But have you ever heard of Morrisons? Or ASDA? Or Tescos?

Jenny! said...

Crushed:
Yes I have! Just giving you a hard time!

There's a Walgreen's more or less across the street from my house, and talk about your ugly bird-catching pieces of shit! I would LOVE to see it dismantled and replaced with the Spindle, which looks pretty damn cool to me. It's, like, whimsical.

Maybe we could arrange a trade?

Come Back Brighter said...

Is Walgreens the pharmacy? I think it's sad that however shit and ugly the sculpture might be, art is being dismantled to make way for unnecessary commerce

Zen Wizard said...

There do seem to be a proliferance of Walgreen's around--I hate going in that place, because whoever their "buyer" is is really good, and I always buy a bunch of impulsive shit I don't need.

A couple years ago, they had on their sign, "We will henceforth stop giving out your private prescription information to third parties."

Huh?

You mean, you WERE??

I don't know if I want every swingin' dick to know how many times I got Viagra. That's between me and MY swingin' dick!

teach me to be a good boy?

but I spent soooo many years getting that Catholic school education behind me.

I'm going to miss the shit catcher. However, I really miss the old pile of garbage that they had up instead (or next to, I don't remember)

snowelf said...

Are you kidding--send us another Walgreens--they haven't built one here in minutes.

:P
Have a great weekend Jenny!!

Wow I do remember this in Wayne's World. I didn't know you guys felt like that about it. I actually thought it was pretty cool, but then again I don't have to see it everyday collecting dust.
